Ball Four The Process of Excelling

Jim Bouton Agency Booking Profile

Jim Bouton was a bench warmer in high school whose guidance counselor recommended he pursue a career as a forest ranger. But he became an All-Star Yankee pitcher who went on to win almost 40 games in two years, and beat the imposing St. Louis Cardinals in two games of the 1964 World Series. In 1978, after authoring the all-time baseball best-seller, Ball Four, and becoming a successful sportscaster, actor, and TV show creator, Bouton decided to try the impossible. Risking his high-profile celebrity status, he went back to baseball, and after two years in the minors, the aged knuckleballer became a Major League winner once again.

During his comeback, Jim Bouton also invented one of the most popular bubblegums in the world – Big League Chew. It has also gone on to replace chewing tobacco for many players. The highest honor of Jim Bouton’s career came when he was featured in the book The Sports 100: The One Hundred Most Important People in American Sports History. Covering 150 years of sports history, Bouton is one of only 21 baseball players featured. Please contact SME today to book Keynote Speaker Jim Bouton
