Arthur Levitt, the 25th chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission, was first appointed by President Clinton in July 1993, and re-appointed to a second five-year term in 1998. The longest-serving chairman in the history of the Commission, Levitt retired from the SEC in 2001. Investor protection was Chairman Levitt’s top priority.
