Bio

Upon graduating from the University of Michigan with a degree in history and economics, Orin moved to New York City, where he joined CBS Television as part of their Page Program. He shuttled between the news division, where he assisted the Special Events department with their coverage of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway, and The Late Show with David Letterman. Orin then moved to Los Angeles to become a creative assistant in the film division at Walt Disney Studios. From Disney, Orin segued to executive roles with prominent producers in Hollywood: Steve Tisch (Forrest Gump), Brandon Tartikoff (former head of NBC and Paramount Pictures), Bobby Newmyer (Sex, Lies and Videotape) and Bob Cooper (former head of HBO, Sony and Dreamworks). He ultimately became Vice President, Production and Development at Artisan Pictures (later acquired by Lions Gate) and also worked as Vice President for legendary comedy brand National Lampoon. At Artisan, Orin identified the screenplay for Lakeview Terrace and spearheaded its acquisition. He later Co-Produced this Samuel L. Jackson thriller, directed by Neil LaBute, with Will Smith. It premiered as the #1 film in the country in September 2008 with a $15 million weekend gross. At National Lampoon, Orin launched a partnership with the University of Texas at Austin where he created and co-taught “National Lampoon’s Master Class in Comedy,” the first course of its kind in the nation, celebrated in newspapers and academic journals for the opportunity it provided budding filmmakers. Sensing seismic changes in the film and television industry, Orin stepped out of his traditional creative role to join the sales consulting firm 2020 Companies in 2009. Years of honing creative selling skills in Hollywood paved the way for Orin’s rapid rise in this new role. His primary client was OfficeMax and he was ultimately brought inside the Fortune 500 Company to expand their reach in the mid-market business segment. In 2013, Orin joined SME Entertainment as Director of Business Development and now serves as Vice President, where he utilizes his vast creative background along with his sales and marketing skills to deliver original speaker and entertainment solutions for clients. Orin is married to actress and short-film maker Dawn Cody. The couple lives in downtown Los Angeles with their son, Wynn, and their rescue dog, Pinto.
