Recording artist, actress and spokesperson Jennifer Hudson came to prominence in 2004 as a finalist on the third season of American Idol. She made her film debut inDreamgirls (2006), which won her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress, a Golden Globe Award, a BAFTA Award, an NAACP Image Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award. She won a Grammy Award for her eponymous debut album, Jennifer Hudson, which was released in 2008 on Arista Records and was certified gold by the RIAA. Additionally, it spawned the hit single “Spotlight”. Her second album, I Remember Me, was released in March 2011, and reached number two on the Billboard 200, also certified gold by the RIAA. The day after the death of Whitney Houston, Hudson paid tribute to her by singing Houston’s iconic “I Will Always Love You” during the 54th Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Hudson will guest-star for a multi-episode arc on the second season of the NBC series, Smash. In 2013, she will receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She sang “America the Beautiful” with the Sandy Hook Elementary School chorus at Super Bowl XLVII. Hudson sang at the 85th Academy Awards in a tribute to musical films. She also performed at the White House at the “Celebration of Music from the Civil Rights Movement” event. Her vocal range is mezzo-soprano.
